Hi! I'm Lisa. I'm a Chicago-based wedding photographer known for my classic and timeless style. I love blogging about my photography and my love of fashion!
Hi friends! Today I am offering up my five tips for beautiful engagement photos! Now that you said yes and have that sparkly ring on your finger, it’s time to start planning your engagement photos! Engagement photos should be fun and planning for them should be stress free! Here are my tips for beautiful engagement photos. Here goes…
Engagement photos are a time when you want to look your best so dressing up is a must! For the ladies, I recommend a dress, skirt or a dressy top! A soft palette of neutral colors are my favorite camera friendly colors. For guys, I recommend a dress shirt, blazer and a nice pair of jeans. Bonus points for a pocket square. Just remember you can’t be too dressed up! Check out my Pinterest page for outfit inspiration here.
Go pro with your hair and make-up! I love when my brides-to-be text me the day of engagement photos saying they are finishing up with hair and make-up! There’s something about getting these professionally done that really put the wow into your photos. Especially with make-up, getting it right on camera (no SPF on photo days) makes for beyond gorgeous photos. This is also a good time to do your wedding day make-up trial.
Planning your session so that it ends during golden hour is my next tip for beautiful engagement photos! The light at this time of day is so soft and dreamy, it always looks so amazing in photos. I use the app The Photographer’s Ephemeris app to find out the exact time the sunsets (or a google search with your location and date works well too). I usually plan all of my engagement photo sessions to start two hours prior to sunset. That way we’ve got a lot of time to spend in that gorgeous light!
Here it is totally up to you. Think for a moment though about how you envision for your engagement photos? Do you want a city backdrop, a beautiful park, the beachfront, or the cozying feeling of your local go-to coffee shop? I’m here to brainstorm ideas with you and can help pick the perfect spot!
Engagement photos should be fun! Be ready to smile and laugh a ton! I’d also plan a fun date night out after your session! You are already dressed up so why not celebrate a little over dinner and drinks. That to me sounds like a perfect ending to any day!
xx,
