Questions I Get asked as a Wedding Photographer

Weddings

Today I’m sharing with you questions I get asked as a Wedding Photographer!  I get so many questions from clients and friends that I thought I’d write a post to capture some of the questions I get asked the most!  If I missed any, please comment at the bottom of this email.  Here goes…

Question 1:  What do I wear to my engagement shoot / maternity shoot / family shoot?

Answer:  I am always happy to help my clients make wardrobe decisions!  I offer a Style Guide for all my clients that details outfits that I feel look best on camera and that flatter you on camera!

Question 2:  Can I see an entire wedding gallery that you’ve taken?

Answer:  Yes!  Of course!  This is something I share during my in person client meetings!  I love sharing my work and can’t wait for you to see it!

Question 3:  How do I photograph a dimly lit reception space?  Show me what reception photos look like.

Answer:  Photographing the reception is such an important part of the day!  It’s where you have your first dance, hear your toast, and dance with all your best friends.  Oftentimes a reception is in the evening and in a darker reception space.  To keep your photos still looking properly exposed, I use two flashes Canon Speedlite flashes.  One is on my camera and the other flash is located off camera on a light stand.  Here’s a few examples of my reception photos:

Question 4:  How many weddings do you shoot a year?

Answer:  This year I’m on track to shoot 15 weddings in 2018 both as a lead photographer and as a second for my friends in the industry!  I also shoot surprise proposals, maternity, anniversary, branding and family sessions!

Question 5:  What equipment do I use when shooting a wedding?

Answer:  I shoot with a Canon Mark iii and Canon’s L Series Prime lenses.  I almost always have my 50 1.2 lens with me because it’s so versatile.  I also have two Canon Speedlite flashes for situations with limited natural light.

Questions I get as a Wedding Photographer

Question 6:  There are so many wedding photographers out there.  How do I pick a photographer for my wedding?

Answer:  You should always pick a photographer who’s work you really love.  If when you are looking on Pinterest you are drawn to bright and airy photography, than pick a photographer who’s style will give you that.  The last thing you’d want is to want a dark and moody style and end up with a bright and airy photographer!

The second most important thing is to pick a photographer you like and get along with!  That person will be with you on one of the most important days of your life!  I meet all my couples in person before booking just for that reason!

Question 7:  Why did I become a wedding Photographer?

Answer: I’ve always loved photography.  8 years ago, I started to become more serious about my photography hobby.  I would go out each night after my finance job and take photos of the city.  At this time, I focused mainly on architecture and long exposure shots (night shots of the city’s twinkling lights).

After getting married myself, I absolutely fell in love with weddings.  I loved every bit about a wedding day and wanted to help couples that were just like me to get photos that would be passed along for generations.  Since I went to school for finance, I wanted to learn as much as I could about wedding photography. I took classes from the best wedding photographers in the nation, attended in person workshops and second shot for local wedding photographers.

Thanks for reading the questions I get asked as a Wedding Photographer!  If I missed a question you have asked it below in the comments!  I will be sure to answer it!

xx,

Lisa
