Hi! I'm Lisa. I'm a Chicago-based wedding photographer known for my classic and timeless style. I love blogging about my photography and my love of fashion!
Hey friends,
I so excited to get to share all my FAVORITE photos from Cyndi and David’s elegant Kimpton Gray wedding. When I think of downtown Chicago weddings, I think of classic, elegance and style – and oh, man, this wedding fits that like a classic Audrey Hepburn movie. Let me fill you in on the day!
As I arrived and rolled my suitcase full of photo gear through the white marble hallways of the Kimpton Gray Hotel, I just knew this would be an unforgettable day. When I made my way to Cyndi’s getting ready suite, laughter and music filled the air. After I knocked the door swung open wide and I was greeted by hugs by Cyndi and her sweet bridesmaids.
While the ladies finished up with hair and makeup, I began styling and photographing Cyndi’s beautiful details. I couldn’t help but overhear, stories about Cyndi when she was little, tidbits about her and her sister and the joy that she was finally going to get to marry her high school sweetheart. I smiled as I caught photos of Cyndi’s big sister holding Cyndi’s hand as she finished up her hair and Mom watching her beautiful daughter with teary eyes.
Looking straight out of an old Hollywood movie, Cyndi slipped into to her perfectly fitted wedding gown. Mom carefully zipped her up and hugged her tight. As all of Cyndi’s finishing touches were made, she knew what was next, her first look.
Surrounded by white marble and beautiful floor to ceiling arched windows, David anxiously awaited his bride in the lobby of the Kimpton Gray. Dressed in his freshly tailored blue three piece suit. He couldn’t have looked more handsome and ready to marry the love of his life. The elevator doors dinged open and Cyndi walked in. She called out his name and David turned around. His breath taken away at the site of his soon to be wife.
We spent the next hour taking photos around the city. Stopping at the nearby Chicago Riverwalk, LaSalle Street with the famous Board of Trade building at the end of the street. All of these portraits made this photographer’s heart so happy!
When we arrived back at the hotel for the ceremony, I was stunned at how beautiful the room was! Carly, the wedding coordinator from Lola Event Productions, in collaboration with Danielle from the Kimpton Gray, put together such a stunning room. Splashes of white and green lush floral from Fleur Inc filled the room while glowing candles lined the white silk aisle. Honestly it was one of the most beautiful ceremony spaces ever! And it was such an honor to photograph the work of these talented vendors!
At 5:30pm sharp, the music from the string quartet was cued and the wedding processional began. David stood at the front of the aisle, ready to marry Cyndi. Cyndi walked slowly down the aisle, with her arm wrapped in her fathers. As she approached David, she turned to give her Dad a hug, then her hand fit into David’s hand and the ceremony began.
Cyndi’s brother officiated the ceremony that was filled with childhood memories and sweet stories about the couple. And I’m pretty sure there was mention of Cyndi watching David play video games. LOL.
As Cyndi and David were announced as husband and wife, the guest cheered and the party began!!!
Cyndi and David, Thank you so much for having me photograph your wedding day! It was truly such an HONOR and I will never forget all the love and kindness that surrounded your day! I wish you both a lifetime full of love and happiness!
Hugs!
Lisa
